
She was born January 5, 1938 in Peoria to Mike and Katie (Hauk) Schaffer. She married Gerald Monroe on October 11, 1958 at Zion Lutheran Church in Peoria. He survives.
They had two children Michael Monroe and Susan Metcalf. She also has one surviving sister Rosemary Kirk.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Carol Graduated from Manual High School where she was elected to the National Honor Society in her senior year. She was very active in many school activities.
She worked at Commercial National Bank and CEFCU for 17 years. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bartonville for many years.
Carol was a hard working, loving, and sincere person all of her life. Those who knew her loved her. She was especially devoted to her family and was very proud of her grandchildren. Katie Metcalf, Amelia Monroe and Thomas Monroe were dear to her heart and she loved them very, very much!
Carol lost her gallant five month battle with cancer on May 11, 2011. She left us too soon but we will love her and miss her forever.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 28 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bartonville. Pastor Michael Jones will officiate. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Burial of her ashes will be in Lutheran Cemetery.
