Charlie was unique, a great leader and friend! I met Charlie at Caterpillar Brasil, me as Parts Sales mgr. and he head of the Service Dept. His office was next to mine! We have had a good time together!

I am so sorry to hear about Charlie's passing. I will miss him so much and cherish all the memories and stories he has shared with me over the years. He was a giant among men.

Anne and I were truly blessed and fortunate to have known Charlie.  He was a mentor, a real friend, a benevolent boss, an advisor - always willing to help and make sure things were done right. He was a true gentleman.  
One of my wife's favorite memories is Charlie calling her at home to make sure she was okay after a tremendous storm the previous evening. He knew I was traveling and she was alone with our children.  He gave his phone numbers and told her to call whenever she needed help. That level of interest from her husband's boss had never happened before and never happened again other than Charlie.
Charlie lived and breathed Product Support and Customer Service. He defined what Caterpillar Product Support should be and set the standard high for his fellow employees and dealers. He was my mentor and shaped my career at Caterpillar, and I know he did the same for so many others. In difficult situations, I would ask myself "what would Charlie do?", and invariably get the right answer. 
He has left an enduring legacy and will be missed.

I am sorry that health will not allow me attend services for Charlie.  But I did want to pay my tributes for the great friend and fellow employee he's been since I first met him in 1964.  He was so great to,have around for his knowledge and excellent ability to work with other employees, customers, dealers , government organizations etc.  i enjoyed him tremendously.

The two of you were a wonderful couple and made everyone around you so comfortable. You have many memories to carry you on.  God Bless you and thanks to God for giving us Charlie to share for so many years..

Charlie personified much of what it meant to be a Caterpillar employee through his approach to supporting customers and building a strong product.

Charlie, what a wonderful legacy you left behind both at Caterpillar and in life.  You inspired so many people and your leadership and mentoring embodied the Caterpillar culture.  Rarely do we get the opportunity to know and love such a kind, talented and humble man.  I hope your little black notebook comes in handy keeping heaven on their toes!!

I have many fine memories of Mr.Verbecke .. I will well remember many conversations with him as I gleaned much from a very interesting and traveled life.. Such a kind, polite and humble man for the wealth of information he held! I will miss him greatly. I mourn his loss but rejoyce with his joining his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. God Bless You Mr. Verbecke!

In1960, I crossed paths with Charlie Verbecke for the first time.  The Belguim Congo was in shambles with a revolution underway.  I was in
the USAF flying the "Congo Airlift" and Charlie was leaving behind everything...a managers job, a farm, and his future.  He then came to Caterpillar, and I didn't see him again for eight years.

When I joined Cat, I met Charlie again, and we recounted our past eight years, and soon I was working for him in a service career.  Charlie was a leader who inspired and supported us.  A great boss --

This past summer, Jim Redpath and I visited Charlie.  We hope he understood our heartfelt feelings.  Charlie, go with God 'til we meet

Charlie was a terrific manager because he was so much more than a manager...he was a terrific person. A mentor, counselor and for most everyone who knew and worked with him, a true friend. We were blessed to know and have him with us for so many years. We have lost someone very special but God has a much more complete place now with Charlie there and his gentle hand nudging things in the right direction. Rest in Peace.

Monique, my name is Marion McKenney.  You probably don't remember me, but I met you several years ago.  I worked for Charlie as his secretary at Caterpillar, and he was such a great boss and person. 

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

Charlie was a great friend and a source of inspiration. We will always treasure the memories when we got together with him and Moni to celebrate friendship and life. He left a legacy at Caterpillar and will be missed by those that were blessed with the opportunity to have known him.

Good by Charlie, You were a fine guy, a friend and respected boss. We had some good times in Geneva and Peoria. We'll all miss you.

Charlie took a chance on many people and was always there to inspire and help those needing it the most. Those people knew they were in the presence of a one of a kind person.  He was the model of a man we all wished we could be.

Charlie was absolutely my favorite manager and friend throughout my Caterpillar career. Rose and I enjoyed our visits with you and Monny after our retirements.  You will be sorely missed!

I feel very fortunate to have worked for Charlie twice (Service Engrg. and the Corporate Mining Group). He was far more than a great boss, he took an active interest in the well-being of his subordinates both on a professional and personal level. Charlie was well-known and highly respected by the global Caterpillar Service and Product Support community. He far exceeded anyone's definition of a gentleman. Charlie was generous with his time, an inspiring leader and, at the same time, one of the kindest most thoughtful and caring individuals I have ever known. The world needs more men like Charlie. He was admired and will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. Rest in peace dear friend!

RIP Charlie. You were a fine manager and a good friend. You profoundly changed my sense of quality machinery service with that visit to Volkswagen in Guayaquil.  Vaya con Dios.

Charlie was my best mentor and friend for many years at CAT.  He gave me great counsel, rehired me during a hiring freeze and helped me many times throughout my career.  Not only was he a great mentor, but was a great friend even after he retired.  I know I am not alone in feeling this way about him.  Many people at CAT owe much to his investment in so many.  He was truly a caring and skilled leader.  Thank you, Charlie.  You will be greatly missed.  God bless you.
