Daniel "Dan" E. Slankard

Daniel Earl "Dan" Slankard, 70, of Dunlap, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023 at his home. He was born on October 12, 1952 in Peoria, a son of Lloyd Earl Slankard and Elizabeth (Biard) Slankard. Dan married Judith Nelson on March 17, 2004 in Peoria. She survives.

He is also survived by his four children, Christine (Brian) Chase of Plantation, Florida, Jim (Missi) Slankard of Moline, Nicholas Zosky of East Peoria, and Katy (Andy) Apostolou of Kathleen, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jaxon and Brynna Slankard and Hayden and Mason Apostolou; two brothers, Arthur (Judi) Slankard of New Zealand and Albert (Janice) Slankard of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Slankard; and one brother-in-law, David Nelson.

Dan graduated from Richwoods High School in 1970 and furthered his education at Bradley University receiving degrees in Political Science and Engineering.

Dan worked as a manufacturing engineer for Caterpillar, Inc. for 40 years, retiring in 2012.

He was of the Catholic faith. Dan was a member of the German American Central Society of Peoria. He was an avid golfer, loved to travel, and play Euchre.

Dan's family would like to thank the staff of Carle Hospice for their kindness and loving care.

Dan's family has arranged a celebration of life gathering from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at the Hickory Grove Park, 12403 N. Hickory Grove Rd., Dunlap, IL 61525. Cremation has been entrusted to the Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria.
