Mr. Daniel “GAP” White transitioned peacefully in his home, on June 7th, 2023. Daniel was born on November 22, 1947, in Peoria, IL to Nathaniel Sr. and Alberta White. Daniel was preceded in death by both parents; his wife and rock of 42 years, Carol Ann White; son Timothy Carlos White; brother Carl White; and one sister Doris Armstrong.
He is survived by one son Christopher Michael (Tanika) White of Peoria; one brother Nathaniel (Camille) White Jr of Peoria; three sisters Barbara Howard and Ruth Brooks of Peoria and Marian Lewis of Baltimore, Maryland; five beloved grandchildren; three granddaughters and two grandsons.
Daniel served as a mechanic in the United States Navy from 1968 and honorably discharged in 1973. During his time in the Navy, he taught himself how to cut hair and was the go-to guy for fresh haircuts. After discharging from the Navy, he went to work for Caterpillar Inc as an inspector, retiring after 34 years of service. Refusing to sit idle, he held many different jobs after retiring from Caterpillar Inc with his final job serving as a crossing guard with Peoria Public Schools.
Daniel was an avid music lover who taught himself how to play the lead and bass guitars. He often hosted music “gigs” in the basement of the family home where he would have up 15 musicians of all disciplines present, jamming out for HOURS!!!! It was a sight to see! When not playing in the basement he would join and travel with other local bands for many years with the latest band being Sensational Traveling 5.
Daniel was a “JACK” of many trades who family and friends would reach out to for help, in which he loved helping. The most enjoyable was tinkering with cars. He could diagnose a repair instantly and would often take care of it for free. Daniel enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, listening to music and watching old westerns.
Daniel was surrounded and supported by his loving family during the last days of his life.
Services will be Friday, June 16th at Heaven’s View Christian Fellowship located at 602 W. Richmond, Peoria, with the visitation from 10am – 11am and services immediately after.
The arrangements have been entrusted to Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel.
