David G. Swan

With David Swan, it is not so much about remembering him as it is about remembering what he was and what he stood for.  David represented the APCO members with honesty and integrity.  While the officers and leaders of APCO always worked had to build a strong intellectual case for the actions they would take or did take, David always mounted an aggressive stress test to assure the veracity of what the members were being told.  Because David was a tough, bright, and well informed member, many people would consider his approach as adversarial, but, to those of us who knew and understood his motives as altruistic, it was an opportunity for us to ensure only the best decisions were being made for the Association.
  
During the many years I had the opportunity to work with Dave, I always appreciated his candor and integrity, but even more I appreciated the fact that David would stand up for what he believed in regardless of who or how many people disagreed with him.  And in later years as he turned his attention to the history of APCO and the Radio Club of America (RCA), he once again managed to create a light for others to follow.  The work he and his team of students and committee performed on updating and maintaining APCO's history established a historical foundation that can easily be built upon, but left a personal commitment that will be difficult if not impossible to meet.

In the end, we all strive to leave a legacy of work and achievements that will benefit our fellow man and set the standards for our family.  In David's case, he has left us all a huge legacy of information and the image of a man who fought for what he believed in and worked hard to promote the best in all of us.

David, thank you for all you gave, and to David's family, thank you for standing behind this tenacious and honest man who quietly represented the best of the best in a humble and quite way.  I can only hope that the family is as proud of David as I am happy that I had the chance and opportunity to work with him.  Although he will be missed, he will never be forgotten.

An Old Friend

Tiger, once your parents pass away, you blaze a new trail.  Although their passing will always leave a void in your heart and soul, please take time to remember the good and forget the bad.  The good memories will live with you forever.

When our parents pass away, we begin a new trail.  We can only hope that they have prepared us well for the journey we are now undertaking.  This brings to mind the phrase: soldiering on.  From now on, there shall be a void in your heart and soul.  Keep the happy memories and allow time to erase the rest. This is one part of life for which we are rarely truly prepared.

Our sympathies in the loss of your dad and grandpa.  I have heard many stories about him over the years and know he was well loved by you.  Sending lots of hugs to all of you.

I worked with David for 12 years.  He was always on the up side, even when he didn't feel well.  Always a smile and a good word.  He will truly be missed.
