George E. "Cub" Harms II

He was born July 1, 1950 in Peoria to George and Myrna (Fischer) Harms. He married Paula Lamprecht in Peoria on July 12, 1973. She survives along with one daughter, Cinnamon Nieukirk (Tom) of Tremont, one son, C.J. Harms of Peoria, five grandchildren: Sam Nieukirk, Olivia Nieukirk, Lexi (Robert) Fernandez, Skylar (Jared) Holloman, Tanner Bahn and great-grandchildren, Ava, Eloize, and Bodhi Fernandez, as well as two sisters: Patricia (Charles) Bennett and Dee Cash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, George “Corky” Harms III.

Cub worked for his father at Harms Florist-a two generation family business when he was young. The rest of his career was spent working in manufacturing management.

He loved telling the story of how he was nicknamed Cub. His father flew a Piper Cub during WWII and his mother told him when they were married that someday they would have a Cub of their own. His dad thought she meant an airplane but she meant a son.

He was an avid sports fan especially of football and basketball. He had a passion for all kinds of music especially the Blues. He loved going to concerts to hear live music.

He was voracious reader and kept a record of the books he had read over the years. He was really proud of the 800 plus books he had on his list which didn’t count those read in his younger years.

He had a great sense of humor and loved laughing with his family and friends telling jokes of his own making. He loved it even more when he was the brunt of the joke. Cub will be greatly missed by family and friends for this great sense of humor and his kind heart.

Cub was a runner and completed many road races as well as marathons and triathlons until neuromuscular disease took that ability away.

One of the highlights of Cub’s life was a trip around the world with friends when he was 15 years old. He spoke of those memories as if they were yesterday.

Cub was a member of Northwoods Community Church where he attended and volunteered for 20 years.

He was a 48 years cancer survivor but after all those years it came around again and took his life.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Davison-Futon Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Please note social distancing will be observed.
