Harriet Mary Louise Lewis, 88, of Peoria Heights, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Carle Health - Proctor Hospital in Peoria. She was born on January 11, 1935 in Peoria, a daughter of Peter Gleason and Stella (Burchette) Gleason. Harriet married Paul Arthur Lewis on November 2, 1958 in Peoria Heights. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1999 in Peoria Heights.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, William Gleason and Edward Gleason.
Harriet is survived by her three children, Shari (Scott) Favorite of Peoria Heights, Mike (Sue) Lewis of Peoria County, and Jerry (Janet) Lewis of St. Charles, Missouri; five grandchildren, Kari (Corey) Gerarden, Shane (Katie Nelson) Favorite, Brandon (Erika) Lewis, Stephanie (Scott) Ward, and Allison Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Elliott Martin, Sawyer Gerarden, and Olivia Ward; two brothers, Jerry (Margaret) Gleason of East Peoria and Mike (Cheryl) Gleason of Peoria Heights; two sisters, Christine Shenaut of Chillicothe and Julie Ann Gleason of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.
She worked as a bookkeeper for her family business, PAL Automotive in Peoria Heights for 30 years, retiring in 2018.
Harriet was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights and a Village Trustee for Peoria Heights for 10 years. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and was the recipient of their Woman of the Year Award for 1985. Harriet enjoyed life, especially time spent with family. She also loved flowers and had a true green thumb with her flower garden. Harriet had Airedale Terriers for the past 34 years and spoiled them all rotten. She loved NASCAR racing, the Kansas City Chiefs, and shopping on QVC. We will all miss her dearly
Harriet's funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Fr. Marc Nkulu will officiate. Her visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am also on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
