It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Herb Breidel, who departed this life on November 8, 2025 at the age of 80 in Peoria, Illinois.
He met his wife, Mary, in 1963 at Aquinas High School – in LaCrosse, WI where he was born – and they shared 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his 4 daughters, Lori, Kristine (Chris), Kim, and Lynette (Nate); his 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Leonard Breidel, and his beloved daughter Christine.
Herb loved his family deeply and cherished bringing people together — good food, a drink in hand, and a lively game of cards. He was always a gracious host ensuring his guests were well taken care of. Tradition meant a great deal to him, whether it was preparing the same meal each Thanksgiving or carrying on the silly games his children grew up with, passing them down to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He often shared stories of his adventures as an avid hunter and fisherman. A lifelong Packers fan, Herb also recently became a passionate Cubs enthusiast.
Above all Herb was steady and supportive – always there to encourage those around him to do their best. His presence filled a room, and his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories he left behind. Herb’s kindness, generosity, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no public services at this time. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
