Jim was born on March 27, 1958 in Port Huron, Michigan to Daniel and Gladys (Snook) Mathes. They preceded him in death.
He is survived by his siblings, Debra (Rex) Newton of Chillicothe, Paul (Dianne) Mathes of Peoria, Bruce (Laurie) Mathes of Germantown Hills, Tom (Margaret) Mathes of Hartford, Connecticut, and Tim (Sharon) Mathes of Carrollton, Texas; nieces and nephews, Stacia Drover, Preston Newton, Brandon Newton, Evan Newton, Grant Mathes, Laura Smith, Maggie Mathes, Sarah Mathes, Jacob Mathes, Rachel Mathes, and Hannah Mathes; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
As an avid sports fan, Jim loved the LA Kings, Dodgers, Lakers, and Rams. Most conversations included talking about sports or food, his two favorite things! Jim was a very generous person and was always willing to share with others. He was a member of Grace and Peace Lutheran Church of Peoria.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. A memorial service will be held at Grace and Peace Lutheran Church at 7611 Knoxville Ave, Peoria, IL, 61614 on August 16, 2024 at 2pm, with a visitation to start an hour prior at 1pm. A reception is to follow with cookies, snacks and coffee. Burial will take place at Parkview Cemetery at 2001 N University St, Peoria, IL, 61604.
