

Karen Sue Van Gulik, 74, of Creve Coeur, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 6:55 am on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at her daughters home. She was born March 28, 1943 in Peoria, IL to Harley and Edna (Nace) Thrush. She married Ben Van Gulik May 25, 1985 in Peoria. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, her brother, Mike Thrush and one grandson, Joshua Moore. Surviving to cherish her memory are her three children, Jeff (Melissa) Shernak of Peoria, Lisa (Bob) Moore of Creve Coeur and Michael (Maria) Shernak of Naples, FL; five siblings, Dick (Luan)Thrush of Leesburg, Fl, Kay (Jack) Quinn of East Peoria, Pat Morse of Brimfield, Pam Copper of Morton and Don Thrush of Peoria, and three grandchildren, Kayla (Jospeh) Kummer of Peoria, Jessica (Jeremy) Mahrt of East Peoria and Darrin (Audrey) Shernak of Peoria, five step-grandchildren, great-grandson, Preston James Shernak, and three step-great-grandchildren. Karen was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society. She worked as an Office Manager for many years at Peoria Heights Autobody until retiring in 1993 and was an active member and volunteer at Christ Lutheran Church and School. Karen's family would like to extend a special thank you to nurse Brenda Schieri with Methodist Hospice for the wonderful care she gave their mother. A visitation will be Monday, November 27, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel and will resume on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 9 am until the start of service at Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria. A funeral service will be at 10:00 am at the church. Pastor Karl Eckhoff will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the service and burial will be at a later date.
