

Karen was born in Pontiac, IL on July 7, 1936 to Clifton and Genevieve (Perkins) Sleeth. After graduating high school at Peoria Central she attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. She moved to Norfolk, VA where she met her future husband, Roger Walters, while he was serving in the Navy. They married on February 17, 1957.
Karen sang in the Peoria Youth for Christ Choral in high school, one of her most cherished memories. She served as pianist/organist for several churches and was a children’s Sunday school teacher.
She worked in retail, mostly as a bridal consultant, retiring in 1988. She was a frequent room mother for her daughters and later enjoyed attending sporting, academic and church events to watch her grandchildren.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Roger, of Morton and a foster sister, Mrs. Jackie Overman of Norfolk, VA. Also surviving are three daughters, Robin (Mark) Lucas of Morton, Kim Policky of Morton, and Renee (Steve) Watkins of Mossville; six grandchildren, Ashley (Donald) Smith, Matt (Kati) Lucas, Brandon Policky, Jill Policky, Ashley Watkins and Zachary Watkins; as well as seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Safe Haven Hospice for their compassion as they made the end of life comfortable and meaningful for Karen.
Services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 3pm at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials may be made to the South Side Mission in Peoria or Safe Haven Hospice, 628 ½ Broadway, Lincoln, IL 62656.
