Lester was born on July 17, 1937, in Peoria, to Lawrence Russell and Mabel (Brown) Gayton Sr. He first married Julia Kate Kyle. He then married Classie Hill. He last;y married Spica McClaren in 1978 and were married for 16 years until her passing in 1994.
He is also preceded in death by his first wife Julia Kyle; his parents, Mabel and Lawrence Gayton; his siblings, Edward Gayton, Frank Brown, Paul Gayton, and Lawrence Gayton Jr.; and his daughter, Renee Gayton.
Lester is survived by his three children, Lester Gayton Jr., Cheryl Ann Hill, and Jeanette Gayton; two step-children, Troy Donovan Wells and Eric John Wells; his 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley M. Douglas.
Lester worked for many years at Keystone. He was a member of a metal detecting club, which he loved to do in his free time. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, watching boxing and NASCAR, and used to enjoy riding motorcycles in his youth. Lester was a very intelligent and talented man. He picked up new skills easily and often. He was artistic and talented in drawing, painting, crochet, and macrame.
Lester's funeral service will be held at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, on Thursday, May 30th, 2024 at 11:00 am, with a visitation to start one hour prior, at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at Springdale Cemetery.
