

Born Jan. 1, 1922 in Peoria to William Burt and Tina Matilda (Keyser) Desmond. He married Betty June Dunbar on June 7, 1942 at the First Evangelical Church in Peoria.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Louis W. (Sheila) Desmond, William W. (Jan) Desmond, Delmar L. (Judy Stephenson) Desmond; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael; two brothers, William and Edwin; sister, Betty Ruth; and one grandson, Jeffery.
A Caterpillar employee for 42 years, fourteen of which were served in the Caterpillar Washington, D.C. office, retiring in 1983 as a Division Sales Manager.
He was a member of the 1941 Manual Training High School Lunch Bunch, Caterpillar Retiree’s Club, Arrowhead Country Club and Concord – St. Andrews United Methodist Church of Bethesda, MD. He was a past president of the Peoria Heights School Board.
He loved golf, fishing, cards, and was a lifelong Cub fan. He was a great father figure and family patriarch, always competitive and was greatly loved and will be missed by all of his family.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria with his nephew Rev. Al Dunbar officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Chapel. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
