She was born to the late Jesse and Ivey (Winstead) Matthews on December 20, 1944 in Nashville, NC. She married Robert D. Mayo on December 23, 1959 in Jacksonville, NC, and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2018.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, James, Roger, and Guilford Matthews.
Maggie is survived by her children, Mike (Sharon) Mayo of Edwardsville, Kelly Mayo of Peoria, and Ken Mayo of Farmington; grandchildren, Lauren (Cody) Clayton, Justin Mayo, Meagan Mayo, Rich (Stacy Schroer) Hedeman, Jessica (Mike) Mills, Zach Hedeman, Jacob Hedeman, Ian Hedeman, Chris (Alex Volk) Mayo, Skye Mayo, Isaiah Mayo, and Simon Mayo; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Lois Jean Farmer and Winston (Jean) Matthews of NC; and loving in-laws, Tim and Linda (Mayo) Elder along with many nieces and nephews and a host of long-time friends.
She worked as a clerk for Bemis Bag Company. She was a member of Farmington Women of the Moose Chapter 470 where she was a past Senior Regent and was awarded the Women of the Moose Green Cap Honor of Distinction.
It was Maggie's wish to be cremated, and a private graveside service will be held at Parkview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Farmington Fire and Rescue or Dream Center Peoria.
