

She was born March 8, 1933 in Meridian, MS a daughter of Clarence and Annie Mae Wimberly Johnson. She married Elmon Petty on April 5, 1953 in Chicago. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Mr. Michael (Joyce) Petty of Peoria; two daughters, Mrs. Rhonda (Robert) Smith Sr. of Portland, OR, Ms. Valeria Petty of Peoria; one brother, Mr. Cecil (Dorothy) Johnson of New Orleans; one sister, Mrs. Helen (Carl) Parker of Peoria; six grandchildren, Tyler and Shalimar Berry, Marquis Wells all of Peoria, Shardai Duckworth, Rianna and Robert Smith Jr. of Portland, OR; and two great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Mrs. Petty was employed by P.A.R.C. in Peoria retiring in 1997.
She was a member of the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Peoria.
Mary was an avid bowler and loved to fish. When she was in school she loved playing basketball and watching baseball. Mary was always going to the gardens and picking vegetables to take to older people that were sick or needed them, and she would do this when she could hardly get around herself.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Peoria. Rev. Simon J. Holly Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at church. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
