Mary Alice Zikus

Mary Alice Zikus, 96, of Peoria, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. She was born on July 24, 1926 in Centralia, a daughter of Rollie and Belma D. (Akers) Neavill. Mary Alice married James J. Zikus on November 30, 1946 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on June 24, 2015 in Peoria.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Sandra Schatsiek.

Mary Alice is survived by her daughter, Susan (Jack) Gilles of Peoria; three grandchildren, Cori (Bryan) Long of Peoria, Andy Gilles of Peoria and Brandon (Sarah) Schatsiek of Broomfield, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Long, Aiden Long and Leighton Long.

She last worked as a secretary for Von Steuben Grade School in Peoria for many years. She previously had worked as a secretary for Roosevelt Junior High in Peoria. Mary Alice also worked for Rembrandt Studios as an artist, hand painting the senior photographs that were taken in black and white.

Mary Alice loved to go shopping, go to the beach and especially she loved spending time with her family and pets.

The family would like to thank Lutheran Hillside Village CNA, Sherry Allen and Unity Point Hospice nurse, Yevetta King for the exceptional care and kindness given to Mary Alice.

Mary Alice's funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Rev. Fr. James Pankiewicz will officiate. Her visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. also on Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
