Melvin "Jerry" Jones Sr.

Peoria – Melvin “Jerry” Jones, Sr., 83 of Peoria, IL passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Heights Healthcare Center in Peoria Heights, IL. He was born August 1, 1930 in Peoria, IL to Owen and Virgil Mae (Woodard) Jones. He married Evelyn Thurman-Stelly on March 5, 1976 in Creve Coeur, IL.

Jerry was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1948 – 1957. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1234, VFW Post 454, Am Vets Post 149, Past Commander of the Military Order of Cootie, Council Member of the 8th Supreme Military Order of the Cootie, Joseph Robbins Lodge 930 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria, Mohammed Temple Shrine, and Past Commander of the Shriner Legion of Honor.

Jerry was a copper prefabricator with Republic Electric Development Company for 35 years retiring in 2001.

Surviving is his wife Evelyn Jones of Peoria, IL, children; Melvin (Brenda) Jones, Jr., of Lacon, IL, Eugene (Becky) Enns of Plano, TX, Julia (Robert) Eyster of Littleton, CO, Clarissa Schultz of Houston, TX, Edwin (Dawn) Stelly of Silvis, IL, and Michael (Janet) Stelly of Tulsa, OK, eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and his brother Wayne (Marty) Jones of Norwood, IL. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and a great granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded.
