

Miriam Andersen Petersen, 99, died August 28, 2024 at Buehler Home, in Peoria Illinois. She was born July 2, 1925 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Rev. Ingvard M. And Ella (Bertelsen) Andersen. She married Loren Petersen on December 27, 1952 in Staplehurst, Nebraska, he preceded her in death. They were married 70 years.
Miriam is survived by her three children: David Petersen (Nancy) of Bethesda, Maryland, Margaret (Steve) Matter of Decorah, Iowa and Jane (Rod) Topel of Peoria. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Laura Matter, Andrea Matter, Nathan Matter, James Petersen, Eric Topel and Ryan Topel. Miriam had 4 sisters and 2 brothers; they preceded her in death.
Miriam graduated from high school in Falmouth, Maine. She earned her RN from Immanuel Hospital of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska and her BA from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Peoria, Illinois.
Over the years she worked at different hospitals before raising 3 children. She returned to nursing for a period of time before she and Loren retired. Her interests and volunteer work included Red Cross blood drives, tutoring grade school students, and the North Peoria Women’s Club. During retirement she and Loren enjoyed traveling to Elderhostels, spending time with family, and many, many walks together.
A graveside service will take place at a later date at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Cremation has been entrusted to the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.
