

She was born in Liverpool, England on July 10, 1923 to Dora Bird and Charles Robinson. She attended the Bluecoat Society School in Liverpool, graduating in 1939. Muriel entered the Royal Woman's Air Force of England in 1941. It was during this time that she met Kenneth Kirkhuff. They were married on December 27, 1943. Kenneth was was with the U.S. Army Air Corp stationed in England. After the war ended, they settled in the Pekin, Illinois area where they raised three children.
Muriel was a Marquette Heights, IL Kindergarten teacher from 1963 until 1970. She was loved by everyone who met her, especially children. She and Ken retired to Indian Shores, FL in 1993.
Muriel is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws: Ron and Kim Kirkhuff of Portland, TN and Roger and Joanna Kirkhuff of Peoria, her daughter and son-in-law: Holly and Mike Haffey of Mt. Vernon, WA, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, her two sisters: Lillian Jones of Chester, England and Dora Burton of London, England and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States, Canada, England, Scotland and South Africa. \
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, a sister, Emily and a brother, Charlie.
Muriel will be remembered for her love, great cooking and warm beautiful smile. Muriel had attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Pekin.
Cremation will be accorded.
A Celebration of Muriel's Life will be at 1:00P.M.Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Davison¬-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria with Rev. Lauren Padgett officiating.
The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
