I was the president of Lima 3/9. I sent a card to Renee but it was returned. Prentice and I served in Lima at different times. He went home just as I arrived in Vietnam, but I got to know Prentice from our reunions. Prentice had a unique character and I liked him right away.  We got snookered together in New Orleans and he and Renee showed me how to tip in craps (play the hard way for the dealers). I still do that, and every time I do, I think of Prentice.
I am blond and as white as paper. Prentice is not. At Circus Circus in Reno I was playing 21 and he reached over and took $100 in chips. The female Asian dealer freaked out. I said, "Whoa. I'd like to introduce you to my brother Prentice." Prentice started laughing so hard I thought he'd pee his pants. 
Prentice was a class act. We will miss him tremendously.


I worked with Prentice at Mitsubishi. I was truly saddened to hear of his passing. He was a great co-worker an some one you could always turn to for advice. He will be greatly missed

Renee,  I'm sorry we won't be able to make it for the services. Prentice will be missed, he always showed up when he was needed.  He was an asset to our family. Going to miss you cuz. Many times in my life you were very much like another brother to me more than a cousin. Always remember you hanging out with me when I was a little boy, visiting  Lexington. As we got older, even tho we did not see each other on a regular basis, we shared good times when we were together. Great memories cuz, great memories.. It’s was through a mutual friend that I learned about the man who I addressed as Mr. P. Truly an honor and privilege to have met this man. Cool, calm and collective best describes this brother. By far the sharpest dressing guy I’ve ever known. A loving family man who loved to travel who possessed a wealth of knowledge that he imparted in me on numerous levels. Thank you Sir for allowing me into your life. 

Prentice,  is my friend and my brother in the Marines. We served in the same Marine unit in Vietnam and attended  many reunions  for 3/9/3  of the Ninth Marines. He always had  a smile when we would talk and made you feel good. I will miss him but will  meet him again.

I was married to Prentice Ray's stepfather, and had the pleasure of getting to know this incredible man. He had the biggest smile that would light up a room. I will carry fond memories of Ray, and even though we will grieve his loss, it should bring us peace and comfort knowing he is resting in the arms of God, and living in eternal sunshine. 

I remember Ray. My mother was married to Paul Wadley. I grew up with Darwin, Ray and Sheldon.  We lost contact at one point. I offer my sincere Condolences and Sympathy to the family.

Prentice was the reason I joined the UAW Local 2488 Veterans Committee. He made everyone want to help. He did so much for the Veterans in our communities all over Central Illinois, and all over the Midwest. I am heartbroken to hear of his passing and I hope it was peaceful. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this sad time.

I started working at Mitsubishi in main body 6 months after Prentice. He found out that I liked baseball (even though not a Yankee fan) and he always made me feel accepted and comfortable, even as a new hire. Always a pleasure to work with.
Prentice had a kind heart and I always felt he was a giant of a man.   I will always respect him for his service to his country during the Vietnam War.

Prentice was one of a kind. A gentle giant, kind to all that crossed paths with him.  Our sons played in the Gus Macker basketball tournaments for many years which bought our families very close.
