

He was born June 8, 1921 in Indianapolis, IN the son of Floyd and Lydia Griffith Long. He married Marianne Mattison on September 14, 1945 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2012.
Ray is survived by his daughters, Susan Long of Peoria, Lois Johnson of Washington, and Nancy (Larry) Breed of Brimfield; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Nadeem Haq) Bentley of New York, NY, and Heidi (Jason) Lamb of Bend, OR; three great-grandchildren, Rosalie Lamb, and Shah Haq, Mariam Haq.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Ray graduated Bradley with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts, and a minor in Music and Art. He was a member of Phi Sigma Pi Fraternity. In 1949 he received his Masters of Science Degree.
He was a WWII Veteran serving in the Army Air Force from 1944-1946.
Ray worked at Caterpillar in Engineering from 1951-1986.
His joy and passion in life was playing his clarinet, his love for music, cars, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray started playing the clarinet when he was 11 years of age. He participated in the high school band as well as the band at Bradley University.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday May 2, 2016 at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Rev Patricia Stetson-Warning will officiate.
Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
