William R. Groves

William R. Groves, 71, of Peoria, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Carle Health Methodist Hospital. Born in Peoria, on March 2, 1955, he was the son of the late William A. and Elizabeth A. (Raistrick) Groves. On March 3, 1990, he married Katherine Herschelman.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Groves; children, Jennifer (Don) Allison and Austin (Lindsey Schafer) Groves; grandchildren, McKinley and Daniella; a sister, Marilyn (Don) Magiera; and mother-in-law, Mary Herschelman. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas Groves; and father-in-law, Lyndal Herschelman.

Bill served as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 649, for over 50 years. He retired in 2015 with 40 years of active service, the last 15 of which he served as

Apprenticeship Coordinator. Bill was an Eagle Scout, who spent time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and boating. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending the granddaughters' sporting and music events. He especially enjoyed family time on his boat in Lake of the Ozarks, and island vacations with his wife. You could find him with a chocolate shake or a rootbeer float.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation will take place on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the funeral home, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
