

Abbie passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2016 at home in her 93rd year. Abbie was born in London England and came to Canada at the age of eighteen months. In Niagara Falls Abbie attended St Patrick's school and later Loretta Academy. Grandfathers and Uncles were associated with the sea and her father the Army, being awarded the Military Medal of Bravery, so in 1943 Abbie enlisted in the Navy at HMCS Star in Hamilton, did her basic training at HMCS Conestoga, then was drafted to Kings College in Halifax where she was affectionately known as 'Mickey" and in January of 1945 sent overseas to HMCS Niobe Scotland. In December of 1945 Abbie returned on the Queen Elizabeth and left the Navy in 1946. Abbie then worked for Canada Customs Niagara Falls until retirement in 1978. Abbie was an active WREN, was associated with Meals on Wheels for 30 years and was a Life member of The Royal Canadian Naval Association Niagara Region and Legion Branch 51. Abbie Received the Queens Jubilee Medal in 2012. Predeceased by father James Finn and Mother Mary Violet, also Brother Peter Finn (Margaret) and Sister Sheila Van Gorder (David). Cherished Aunt of Jim, Paul, Marybeth, Elaine and John, great Aunt of Aron (Sharla), Allison, Shaun, Devon, Dylan, Sarah, and Michelle, Great Great Aunt of Aiden and Keira. Family would like to thank the staff at Applewood Retirement Home and Princess Gardens for their care. There will be a Graveside ceremony at Fairview Cemetery 4501 Stanley Avenue, Niagara Falls Saturday May 14th at 1pm with luncheon to follow at Legion Branch 51, Frazer Street, Niagara Falls at 2pm.
