Alan Coulas (Allan), age 70 of Peterborough, passed away peacefully, with family and friends at his side, on October 07, 2026. Just before his passing he was enjoying ice cream and he happily said, “I am going home.” He was looking forward to being in heaven, pain free, with his vision restored and seeing his family and friends that had gone before him. He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Church in Peterborough, Allan worked for many years as a dedicated machinist at GE, taking pride in his craft until blindness robbed him of his career.
He is survived by his brother Patrick, his sister‑in‑law Sue, and his nephew Joel, along with his cousins and close friends Ruth, Jim, Roleen, Ellen, Jessie, Sue, Dave, Anne, Barry and Janet, all of whom will forever cherish his memory. Allan was predeceased by his father Julian, mother Laura, sisters Stella and Barb, brothers Edward, Lenard, Orland, Ron, Jim, and his nephew Cam, all whom he held close in his heart throughout his life and had also perished with cancer.
Although Allan, could be demanding and had a stubborn streak, he was also a very a kind and generous man. He was a good listener who would listen carefully then offer up good advice and some heart felt comfort. Allan’s greatest joy and pride were his gardens, which he enjoyed and tended with patience, care, and love. He found comfort in listening to the birds that visited, often spending quiet moments outdoors at his home. He never listened to sad music always seeking happiness and not allowing his annoying brother Patrick to say anything that was too serious, always skipping over things that were hard to hear. Preferring to look only forward to the good things.
He had a talent for discovering interesting music, always searching for new songs on Google to share or enjoy. He also loved comedy movies and classic tv shows, playing card games, bringing friendly competition and laughter to those around him.
Missed deeply by family and friends, he leaves behind warm memories, gentle humour, and the beauty of his gardens. Allan lived for and was inspired by the many compliments on his gardens and the artwork on his shed from those that passed by his house. Allan had a special bond with Ellen and would perk up when saw her. Allan was immensely proud of how she had grown her business and helped bring his gardens to life in a spectacular fashion.
A private ceremony for Allan has been held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to his local friends for their support, care, and kindness over the years and particularly over the past few months. Your support provided us with comfort that meant more than words can express.
Allan had a fighting spirit, never gave up, was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. In short, just pure Allan, Coulas #7.
