Jacobson, Barry: Peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday October 8, 2025 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Jacqueline. Dear father of Merav Jacobson (Ryan Keller), Dina Jacobson, Ami Jacobson (Anna). Loving grandfather of Jacob Keller and Hannah Jacobson Pavlakos. Brother of Semon (Clara) and Stanley (Sharon) Jacobson. Stepfather of Larry and Rob Strelecki (Amanda) and grandkids Charlie and Jackson. Barry will be remembered by his nieces and nephews, by Marsha Nickerson and many friends.
Born in Halifax, and a graduate of Dalhousie U., in 1967 Barry answered the call for volunteers to go to Israel, where he stayed for 20 years teaching, raising his family and serving as a Medic in the Israeli Defence Forces.
Barry was truly a “Renaissance Man”. Although his main profession was teacher of English for students from many countries, he devoted many years to agricultural pursuits, from growing avocados and iceberg lettuce in Israel, to keeping bees, and raising dairy goats at his home in Woodview. In his later years, he became a passionate musician, playing tenor and clarinet in the Peterborough New Horizons bands. He was a proud member of Beth Israel synagogue.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday October 9, at 10:30 am at Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre 356 Rubidge Street followed by Interment Little Lake Cemetery. Please refrain from sending flowers. If desired, donations to the PRHC Foundation or Beth Israel Peterborough would be appreciated.
