There was a time in Campbellford when it was the thing to do to swim across the river just north of the old lift bridge, from the core wall at Turner's Garage on the west side to the core wall just behind the previous location of the Bank of Montreal on the east side, or vice versa. One summer evening, I ended up in the middle of the river at the same time as Bunny. Suddenly, to the south of us, there was a speed boat headed in our direction. Bunny told me to grab the back of his swimsuit and hang on tight. In the
available seconds, he was calmly treading water and calculating when to do the deep dive to take us both out of harm's way. Fortunately, in one of those seconds, the boat veered away from us, making it unnecessary to take evasive action.
R.I.P. Bunny. You were loads of fun to be around. You had a great laugh and a wonderful sense of humour.

Please accept my sympathy on the death of Bunny. Yes, he was in
some of my Campbellford High School classes. I just remember him as a quiet young man, reserved, and not in trouble like some of the others.
It is hard when someone you love dies. You don't get over it, you learn to live with it. Remember all the good times you had with Bunny.
My husband Jim died 12 years ago now and I still have some weepy days.
Sincerely, Bev McComb
