

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edwin Challice, a devoted teacher, coach, gardener, and friend whose kindness and dedication touched the lives of many. Edwin passed away peacefully, on Saturday August 15, 2026, at Fairhaven Long Term Care. The son of Richard and Goldie Challice. Dear brother of Dennis (late Marylin), Ralph, the late Orlo and the late Doris. Loving remembered by his niece and nephew Cameron (Lise) and Melissa (Jay Algar).and their families.
Edwin was a teacher at heart, having taught many different grades throughout his career. He concluded his teaching career at Blackstock Public School, where he continued to make a lasting impact on the lives of his students. He shared not only his knowledge, but also his patience, encouragement, and deep commitment to fostering a love of learning.
Outside the classroom, Edwin was a man of many passions. He was a dedicated baseball coach who took great joy in sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. He also enjoyed bowling, biking, and cross-country skiing, and found fulfillment in remaining active and spending time with others.
Edwin had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and was a passionate gardener. He took great pride in his garden, and especially in his strawberry patch, which was a true labour of love. He found joy in watching things grow and in sharing the fruits of his efforts with family and friends.
Faith was an important part of Edwin’s life. He was a devoted and active member of Bethany United Church, where his faith, friendships, and sense of community held great significance for him.
Edwin will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and wisdom as well as for the many lives he touched through his work in education, coaching, and community involvement.
He will be deeply missed, but the lessons he imparted and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Service for Edwin will be held on Monday, August 24th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street. Interment to follow at St. John’s Anglican Cemetery in Ida. A reception will follow the burial, at Bethany United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bethany United Church would be appreciated.
