

It is with deep sorrow that the family announces Cecil LaChapelle, age 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre with loved ones by his bedside.
Cecil is survived by his beloved partner of 14 years, Betty Freemantle, his former wife, Doris Effie Stone, with whom he had two cherished sons, Steven and David LaChapelle, and loving sisters Frances, and Yvonne.
Predeceased by his parents Cecil and Ruth, and siblings Brian and Pat LaChapelle. Cecil will be lovingly remembered by Betty’s family; her children Donny (Gail), Jamie (Stacey), Angela Brotherstone (Peter), and Tony (Wendy); and her grandchildren Courtney, Michael, Hannaha, Tyler, Jaclyn (Joe), Jessica, and Danielle (Rob). Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Cecil was born in Toronto, Ontario where he solidified his career as a licenced construction and maintenance electrician and after retirement found his home in Peterborough, Ontario where he met his partner.
Cecil had a great sense of humour, generous heart, curiosity for learning, love of nature, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. He was a devoted spouse and father. He enjoyed inventing gadgets, fishing, owls, and listening to his favourite music artists, Johnny Mathis, Frankie Vallis and the Four Seasons and watching his favourite movie actor/director, Clint Eastwood. ‘Go Ahead, Make My Day’.
