Today would have been Clair's 91st birthday. He was so close but it was not to be  True to the values our wonderful parents instilled in us not to be a quitter even in the face of adversity Clair battled his cancer with courage and determination and won the battle 3 times in twenty years.  He faced his fourth challlenge with so much optimism that he was planning his third 
consecutive 10K Terry Fox walk again in September earning him the status
of role model to young and old alike.  He wanted to "give back" and so he
raised nearly $6,000.00 for the Peterborough event with his two walks. in
2011 and 2012
And so I say to you " big bruzzy" your chemo and radiation and surgery are
all behind you.   Walk on !  and rest in peace.  You deserve it.

My Wife and I attended Clair's Funeral today. We learned about his life and his family, but we knew him as a dear, loyal friend and business colleague. Lately, we met over dinners enjoying his conversation. Some knew him as a quiet person, we knew him as a person who loved to talk and share his thoughts. We wish we were able to spend more time in his company. We shall remember him as long as we shall live.

I think today, the day of Uncle Clair's funeral, of a man with great courage, determination and dignity.  I was always struck by his demeanor, and he was always a man to quietly ask about my life, and to have some words of wisdom and encouragement.  I know that he, like my father, had lived through some terrible times, had survived the horrors of war and the great potential sacrifice, watching other men die well before their time.  I know that much of his peacetime life that followed he dedicated to good works and to a meaningful life, and I pleased and proud to have called him Uncle then, and now.  He will be missed.
