Covid changes things including running into friends in your neighbourhood,  and I hadn't seen Dave in over a year.  I have only just learned of his  passing. I am heartbroken. I have known him since we both lived in Bancroft.  At a particularly difficult time in my life  Dave was sweet and kind and thoughtful to me and my children.  When we reconnected in Peterborough I spoke with him about how grateful I was and he simply said "You looked so lost and needed comfort".  That is Dave in a nutshell.

I met David on our first day in grade six at McConaghy Public School in Richmond Hill.His  mother and mine started a friendship that lasted a lifetime. Dave hung out with the same gang as I did,Sharon P SharonJ,Lynne ,Ted ,John,Donnie,Frank,Gord,He was the President of our graduating class at RHHS.A very caring and good guy.
My condolences to his family especially Jody and Kevin.
Sorry to hear Rod has also passed.

My uncle Dave had an aura of wisdom that always intrigued me.  Always sincere and engaging my most beloved memories were steaming away from the murmur of chaos to sit and catch up.  Uncle Dave would always put thought into questions and answer them with purpose, seemingly intent to make a difference, and he did.  Perhaps the most specific image I have of uncle Dave is of him sitting on his chair tucked away in the corner at the cottage with a book in hand, taking in the action from a safe distance and enjoying every
Minute of our great family.  I will miss him dearly and feel blessed to have spent so
Many good years in his company.  

I was shocked and very sad to hear the news. Dave was a very dear and close first cousin of my late husband Doug. I've tried to find some photos to share but likely they are on slides. Dave was truly an incredible person and I enjoyed talking to him every time we met.
I'm thinking of you all and sending heartfelt wishes.

It was always a pleasure running into David around town. I last saw him in the summer and we had a lovely chat. I first met David while he was teaching English and I visited his class every month for a few years. He was always very generous and welcoming and well loved by his students. David leaves a legacy of kindness and compassion and will be remembered by many. 

David was a wonderful, warm and generous man. I was around many times when David's English class for the day came to a close, and without a doubt student's always left with a big smile on theirs faces and lots of English chatter amongst themselves excited to practice the new language skills they had acquired that day. Thank you so much David for all of your energy and years of work to make Peterborough a welcoming community for newcomers. You will be greatly missed. 

I am sad to hear this news. I and my family wish him mercy and forgiveness. He was a good and kind person. We sat several times in the morning when he came back from walking in the morning and then went to work. He prepared some sweets and ice cream for my children and we were happy to know him and meet him and it did not last long.  He left this world and left a beautiful trail and a good memory for us. We wish him mercy.

Our sympathies go to David’s family and friends.  He was our neighbour, and he always greeted us with a smile, and inquired about us and our loved ones. We always enjoyed seeing him, and our conversations ranged  from book recommendations, places to canoe, and local history.  He was playful with our grandkids. His kindness and compassion always shone out. He will be missed.

We have been privileged and enriched by 45 years of friendship and many happy memories of time spent with Dave.

These are two memories that stood out for me.

On a visit to Baptiste Lake back in 1995, Dave showed us the two beautiful wooden kayaks he had built. When I asked if it was something I could do, he didn't hesitate to assure me that it was absolutely within my reach. He provided me with plans, advice, instructions and even came to our cottage for the final step in aligning the finished craft. On his many visits to our cottage. We explored long lake on our kayaks together.

Another wonderful memory is the trek on the Camino in Spain, initiated and organized by Dave. We enlisted the help of Camino expert, Bev Robson, who decided to join us and Jim, Dave,  Bev and I spent a life-changing two weeks walking from Pamplona to Burgos, learning to love tapas, grapes and blackberries along the way.
As already written, Dave was indeed a seeker looking for peace and meaning. Our times with him were characterized by these qualities in our long talks, his writings and his outlook on life. We will miss him and are enriched by our friendship with him.

Maryann, Ben, Isaac, Mavis and Tian, we are sorry for your loss. Your dad and grandfather sounds like a kind soul, and a man to be very proud of. Bella, Scott and I are sending you our sympathy, and we hope that your positive memories of him will comfort you as you walk through this loss.  

We are very sorry for your loss Maryanne, Mellissa,  and Jay.  Dave was a very good friend!  who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed  it, and a good golfing partner. He will be missed  so very much by his friends,  Tony and Cathy Beaulne.
