With her family by her side, in the early morning of June 12, 2026, we announce with sorrow her passing in Peterborough, Ontario. Daughter of the late Harold and Mearl (nee Dewell) Hopkins. Beloved wife of the late Norman Faulkner (1935 – 2017). Loving mother of Lisa Saunders (Rob) and Liana Sarginson (Andrew Sommers). Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her granddaughter Amy Sarginson (Scott Clements). Dear sister of James Hopkins (Audrey). Predeceased by her sister Catherine Metcalfe (Bob).
Donna was born and raised in the Fenelon Falls area, where she met and married her husband Norm, originally of Coboconk. Donna worked most of her career in Sturgeon Falls at Frank Casey Public School, as the secretary that all remember, where she raised her girls with Norm. During those 50 some years, she was active in the entire community at the curling club, playing cards every chance she had with family and friends and at St. Andrew’s United Church as a Sunday school teacher, when her girls were small, to the regular organist (and music director) and the Treasurer. A woman of many talents, she contributed countless hours to the community prior to her move to Peterborough in 2022 to be closer to family.
We extend a special thank you to the team at Canterbury Gardens Retirement Residence, where she will be missed at Monday Euchre and by the many care providers she loved, especially in the last few months. To the care team, during her time in palliative care at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, we thank you all for your amazing support, with a special mention to Dr. Morelli for helping us through the last few weeks during her home visits and at the hospital.
According to her wishes, there will be a private family gathering prior to cremation.
Should you wish to make a donation, in her memory, we ask that you consider the palliative unit at Peterborough Regional Health Centre or the charity of your choice.
When Tomorrow Starts Without Me
When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand;
The angel said my place was ready, in Heaven far above,
And that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But when I walked through Heaven’s Gates,
I felt so much at home,
For God looked down, smiled at me,
And told me “Welcome Home.”
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I‘m right there in your heart.
