A life so beautifully lived - 101 amazing years - deserves to be beautifully remembered. We mourn the peaceful passing of Eileen Allemang on August 14, 2020, while celebrating her strength and love. Beloved wife of the late Robert Allemang. Cherished mother of Margaret Ann (Lou Favrin), Susan (Laurie Fox), and Wendy (Bill Abraham). Devoted Nana of Katie Favrin; Sean, Colin, and Brendan Fox. Special Grandma to Derek (Caroline; Jack and Charlie) and Ryan (Sara) Abraham.
Mom’s love of travel began at the age of 6, when she came to Canada from Ireland. Throughout her adult years, she explored Europe, Canada and the United States - with many trips to Las Vegas!
She met our Dad while working in the Engineering Department at U of T. They were married once he returned home, after the War. In 1954, his job with CGE relocated their young family to Peterborough, Ontario. Little did Mom know, she’d call Peterborough ‘home’ for the next 66 years.
After several years as a stay-at-home Mom, she was ready for a new challenge. She started as a secretary at Trent University, eventually becoming assistant to the Master, at her beloved Peter Robinson College. The mother of three girls, Mom was fascinated and entertained by the hijinks at this all-male college. She always took pride in her work and loved being part of the Trent family. The students Mom helped, were as important to her as her own children. When she retired, the University acknowledged her contributions by creating a bursary in her name. Students continue to benefit from that assistance today.
The Church and community involvement were always important to Mom. She taught Sunday School, and was active in several groups at All Saints Anglican Church; in later years, she supported St. Barnabas Anglican Church. Always an avid reader herself, she understood the importance of libraries. For many years, she was an active ‘Friend of the Library.’ When she was no longer able to participate in their book sales, or staff the shop, she received a special certificate of appreciation.
Retirement also allowed Mom more time to enjoy her bridge games, and she developed a passion for golf. Her friends held a big spot in her heart, as did her family. A strict yet loving mother, turned into an ‘anything goes’ grandmother! She doted on her grandchildren; at Nana’s house, there were no rules.
For the past four years, Mom lived at Princess Gardens, where she enjoyed meeting a new group of people. Her easygoing nature, and kind smile were infectious among both residents and staff. We’d like to thank everyone at Princess Gardens for their dedication, care, and support.
Mom, you have been and will always be an inspiration to us. Your memory, your warmth, and your love will live on forever. You were put on this earth for a reason. 101 years lived is a milestone, but we’re the lucky ones to have known you. There’s one more star shining brightly tonight, as Heaven has gained another angel. xo
