1929-2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Eric Thomas Warburton announces his peaceful passing on August 7, 2025, at Kawartha Heights Retirement Living in Peterborough, Ontario. Eric was born on January 29, 1929, in Birmingham, England. He was a devoted husband to Ruth (nee.Trendell) and a proud father to his three children, Matthew (Lynn), Sarah (Brent) and Alex (Shân).
Eric grew up during the Second World War in bomb ravaged England. Too young to enlist by the war’s end he was apprenticed as a draughtsman at the Wolseley Sheep Shearing Machine Co. Birmingham was the epicentre of British motorcycle manufacturing at the time so he soon developed a passion for 2 wheels and especially the Isle of Man TT.
He met Ruth in late 1959 when she was visiting the UK to be bridesmaid at a friend's wedding. They fell in love and three months later they were married! Emigrating to Canada with his Canadian wife, they arrived in Montreal on November 11, 1960. He soon found employment as a design engineer in Peterborough where he lived and raised his family for the majority of his life in Canada. Along the way, Eric worked at some of Peterborough's pre-eminent companies such as Pioneer Chainsaws and Raybestos-Manhattan, before spending his last working years at Purity Packaging where his design skills and innovative thinking garnered him multiple patents on his work.
In their retirement years Eric and Ruth drove across Canada numerous times, to both the east and west coasts, and donated countless hours to their church community and also to helping seniors.
Eric is survived by his wife of over 65 years, his sister Ann Baker, his children, and his grandchildren, Moira, Colin, Evan, Adam, Rhys and Arrow. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Annie (nee. Morris).
A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. John’s Anglican Church, 99 Brock Street, Peterborough. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Peterborough Alzheimer Society in Eric’s memory or to St. John’s Anglican Church. See links below to donate on Eric’s behalf
