It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Holmes on October 24, 2025, in Picton, Ontario at the age of 96. A woman defined by her vibrant spirit, unwavering resilience, and joy for life, Evelyn will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Born Evelyn Lawrence, on a tenant farm outside London Ontario, Evelyn's early life revealed the strength of character that would carry her through a lifetime of change and challenges. She was a survivor of the Great Depression, the Second World War, cancer, and the Covid-19 pandemic, facing each with remarkably positive energy that people gravitated toward.
Evelyn was fun-loving, her optimism and bright outlook on life were contagious, earning her many lifelong friends. When she sat down at a bridge or card table, she was a fierce—though always smiling—competitor, a testament to her playful and spirited nature. Her passion for life also extended to her love of art; her beautiful oil paintings are cherished as lasting memories of her talent and creative soul.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Ken. Their 20 years together were a joyful adventure of decorating, hosting and treasure hunting for their antique store, ‘Memory Lane’ in Bayfield. They were the light of each other’s lives.
Evelyn is survived by her loving children, Gail Tedford, Brent Tedford (Susan), and Shelley Daigneault (David); her grandchildren, Kelly and Andrew; and her great-grandchildren, Daxton and Blakely. She is also lovingly remembered by her "adopted" children, Pat Kelly and Helen Lewis of Kitchener.
The family offers sincere thanks to Evelyn’s special friends at Conestoga Lodge in Kitchener and heart-felt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Kentwood Park LTC Home in Picton for their dedicated care during Evelyn’s short stay there.
Cremation has taken place. Interment at Williamsburg Cemetery in Kitchener at a later date.
