On the afternoon of October 27, 2023 , George Allan Birkett passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Hospice Peterborough. Al was born in 1946 in Scarborough ON to Doris and Tyson Birkett. He attended Western Michigan university on a basketball scholarship and came home to begin his career and partnership at Geron Associates.
Big Al had a passion for sports and spent most of his spare time “chasing a ball” as he always said. Tuesday Knights at Scarboro Golf Club, intense tennis matches at UofT, or basketball with The Hounds and BoPeeps. Once Al and Jan retired, they left the city and followed their love for golf to The Forest in Fort Myers and Peterborough Golf and Country Club, where they created some of their favourite memories and friendships.
Al was known for his sense of humour and his infectious laugh will forever be missed.
Al is survived by his wife Jan, his Daughter Sarah (Mike) his sister Ann, and his 3 grandchildren, Cash, Virginia, and Tanner. A celebration of life will be held from 2-6pm at Scarboro Golf and Country Club on Saturday December 2nd, 2023. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to Hospice Peterborough.
