

Gerard (Gerry) Armstrong of Peterborough, Ontario, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, at Hospice Peterborough. Born on December 14, 1932, in Peterborough, Gerry grew up in and had a lifelong love for East City, where he spent much of his life.
Gerry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathleen “Kitty” Armstrong (2008), with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Daniel (Cathy), Douglas (Shelley), and David (Wendy), and a proud and cherished grandfather of Brandon, Cara, Katie, Corey, David (DJ), Christopher and Alicia. Great-grandfather to Riley, Beau, Ryla, Griffin, Landon, Eleanor, Mason, Benjamin, Charlie, Theo and Jynsen. He is also survived by his sister in law, Dorothy Lucas.
Known for his strong work ethic and quiet dedication, Gerry worked at The Peterborough Examiner for more than 45 years. Retirement did not slow him down. Wanting to remain active and connected to the community, he became and usher at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, where he worked for a total of 35 years, Finally calling it quits in March of this year. He especially enjoyed greeting the many familiar faces who attended games, concerts, and community events.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Peterborough Regional Health Centre for the exceptional care and compassion they provided. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Peterborough Manor and Hospice Peterborough. The kindness, dignity, and empathy shown to Gerry throughout his journey will never be forgotten.
Gerry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kindness, dedication, and love for his family and community will remain a lasting legacy.
Funeral service will be held Friday, August 28th, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Church, Wilson Street, Peterborough at 11:00 am followed by inurnment at Little Lake Cemetery.
Reception to follow at the Peterborough Navy Club.
