February 1, 1944 – August 17, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of John “Roger” Fines announces his peaceful passing on August 17, 2026, surrounded by his family at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Born in Newmarket, Ontario, Roger was the son of the late Donald and Daisy Fines. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Bruce; his sister, Joan; and his daughter, Sheila.
Roger wore many hats throughout his life. He served in the Navy, was a pastor, and spent much of his working life continuing to help others as a residential building superintendent. He was endlessly proud of each of these chapters and the people he was able to help along the way.
Roger was someone you could always count on to lend a helping hand. He loved working with his hands, keeping busy, and always seemed to have something on the go. In his downtime, you could usually find him settled into his recliner, cup of coffee in hand, watching an old movie. He loved his dogs, birdwatching, and spending time outdoors. Even as his health declined, there was nothing he enjoyed more than a walk by the river with his family - especially when it ended with a good milkshake.
If you knew Roger, you also knew there was never a sly joke or quirky dance move far away. His humour, his helpful nature, and all of the little things that made him Roger will be deeply missed.
Roger will be lovingly remembered by his children, Paula (Jeff) and Cathy; his grandchildren, Marina, Fred, Hannah, Greg, Kelsey and Tyler; and his great-grandchildren, Dawson and Dakota.
As per Roger’s wishes, his family will honour and celebrate his life privately.
