It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth “Kenny” Bestard, beloved son of Ron and Barb Bestard, stepson to Karen Bestard, brother to Jenny and Rob (Jennifer), stepbrother to Amy (Greg), Scott and cherished uncle to Tyler, Travis, Tucker, Tayden, Lennon and Daphne, Silas, nephew, cousin and friend to many.
Kenny grew up in Douro, where he made lifelong friendships and countless memories with his Douro buddies. Known for his great sense of humour, mischievous spirit, and ability to make people laugh, Kenny was always up for a good time and never too far from a little trouble.
A talented athlete, Kenny had a passion for hockey and lacrosse. He played Junior A hockey with the Peterborough Bees, competitive junior lacrosse with the Peterborough Lakers, and later Senior B lacrosse with the Norwood Nitro. A fierce competitor with plenty of grit, Kenny was always exciting to watch and never one to back down from a challenge, or a fight. His love of sports also led him to Fleming College, where he graduated from the Sporting Goods Business program.
Beyond his competitive spirit, Kenny had a heart of gold. He loved deeply, and especially loved his family. Kenny faced a long and difficult battle with addiction, one that brought heartache to him and those who loved him.
Addiction may have changed the course of Kenny's life, but it could never erase the love of those who knew him best.
For those who knew Kenny, remember the laughter, the friendships, the games, and the good times. Remember the boy from Douro who had so much talent and so much life in him.
Rest easy, Kenny. May you finally find the peace you deserve.
