Laurabel Evelyn Chevalier

Passed away peacefully at Fairhaven Home, Peterborough, on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 96 years of age. Beloved wife of the late John (2019) for 66 years. Loving mother of Barrie (Sherry), Karen (Ian Kirkland), Shawn (Rebekah), Cheryl, and Don (Deb). Dear grandmother of Jared, Braden (Myka), Jeremy (Katherine), James (Gillian), Lindsay (Rob), Daniel (Amy), Theresa (Brandon), Kendra (Pascal), Jeffrey (Julia), Dylan (Katie), Julia, Aleesha (Jared) and Victoria. Great-grandmother of Ira, Maude, Ellis, Leo, and Kathryn. Sister of the late Ken Barrie (the late Pat) and the late John Barrie (the late Nancy).

Laurie was born in Norwood and grew up on her family’s farm. She nursed at the Civic Hospital in Peterborough and returned in later years to work 13 years as a psychiatric nurse. After raising their family in Peterborough, Laurie and John retired to their “Homestead” near Bancroft, where many family gatherings were held, before returning to Peterborough. Laurie had a love of gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and enjoyed hosting family dinners. She loved games, especially Scrabble, and passed the passion for games on to her family.

A reception for family will be held at a later date. Special thanks to the staff at Fairhaven who cared for her so well.
