It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Lily Mina Weiss on July 1st/2026 just twenty days after she celebrated her 102nd birthday. Lily was born in Lakehurst at the family homestead to the late Martha and Maxwell Weiss. She is survived by her brother
Bert Weiss and predeceased by her siblings Margaret Tully, Elsie Flint, Dora Wright, Sallie deLaplante, Maxwell Weiss and John Weiss.
She will be sorely missed by many nieces and nephews along with her loving companion Tim Hushion and good friend Rob Matheson.
Lily ran a very successful hair salon in Peterborough for several years called Lillians. She loved being a hairdresser but a fall off a balcony cut her career short after 25 years and she ventured on into the world of real estate. She was a realtor for many years and in 1976 was named the MLS Saleswoman of the Year. Lily was very proud of this accomplishment.
After she left real estate she went on to open up a bed and breakfast on King Street in Peterborough called The Bird Cage Emporium. This fascination with birds and bird cages came from a New York City diner with a bird decor which she once visited. Lily loved running this bed and breakfast and remained very good friends with some of her patrons.
Lily was an avid skier and was a member of the Bethany ski club for years. In the summers she enjoyed spending time at her cottage on Jack Lake . She spent many summers there with her godchildren Kathy and Ronnie Weiss who held a special place in her heart.
Lily was a remarkable strong independent woman who was able to live on her own until the day she died. In 2021 she ended up in Hospice and was told she had only days to live. Lily wasn’t having any of that and went on to celebrate her 99th,100th then 101 and 102nd birthdays. The family would like to thank Tim Hushion for his loving care for Lily providing her with meals and companionship over the past few years. As well to her nieces Linda Greer , Nancy Cavanagh and Shelley Moloney for driving her to her numerous appointments and outings. May she rest in peace.
A graveside service will take place at Sandy Lake Cemetery on Friday July 10th at 1pm . If desired donations can be made to Hospice Peterborough on Lil’s behalf.
