Dear family,
I only knew your Mother for a short time, but I met her at a dark time in my life when I needed someone to talk too.  Last fall, when she was home resting from an injury, I had a nervous breakdown and could not see clearly as to what meaning life had for me.  I won't go into the details- but Lorna and I were in the same age bracket, and although I was not in her congregation she offered to counsel me through this.  She refused to accept any renumeration; she just wanted to help me.  We shared about our families, the worries about our children and the future we were facing as we were both still working when we wished to be enjoying retirement soon. I am sharing this with you as you should know that your Mother helped me through it all with her attentive, caring listening, and her personal sharing.  We would get together to walk and talk.  She told me how much she loved all of you and wished you were closer.  I would bring her fresh flowers, as she said that was one thing she did for herself when she felt "down". She shared her pride with me when she fixed up her front yard, and told me of plans to make a retreat in her backyard.
I carry with me today, the reasurring little cards she had me make to help me through tough times. Maybe I can share some of the thoughts with you now-
"When God closes a door, he opens a window", "I am capable of wonderful things.",  "Smile", "Stop to smell the roses."....
Please know that your Mom's life meant something to me, and I will never forget it. Please enjoy the flowers I have sent- I only wish I could be there in person to share my thoughts with you.
