Lucille grew up on the Prairies and went to school in Manitoba. Before moving to Peterborough in 1969 with her husband Dr. James Strath, she had lived in Winnipeg, Germany, Halifax, and Toronto. She had three children: Susan, Andrea, and Ian. Later, after the death of her husband in 1988, she retired from her work at Trent University and moved to a home she built on Clear Lake near Lakefield, Ontario.
Lucille was an exceptional person who throughout her life had many wonderful friends with whom she shared her sincere interest and curiosity. Indeed, she was genuinely curious about all peoples, all places, and all things of the world. She was an accomplished historian, painter, and writer. She loved to travel whether it was to places close to her home in the ‘land between’ near Clear Lake or destinations that would take her far from her home. She travelled bravely and gathered a storehouse of knowledge that she shared freely, allowing those around her to make sense of life’s experience.
Lucille was the most wonderful mom and grandmother.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents: Stella and Howard Hennan, stepfather Joseph Carignan, her brothers Carl and Vern Hennan and her husband Francis James Strath. She is survived by her brothers Amos Hennan and Edward Hennan, her sister Gloria (Ron) Miller, her children: Susan (Tadeusz) of Montreal, Andrea (Jeff) of Toronto and Ian (Carolyn) of Barrie, and her grandchildren: Larissa, Roman, Benjamin, Allison, Glen, and Russell.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Lucille’s life at Lakefield United Church, 47 Regent Street, Lakefield on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 am, visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
