Huels, Marilyn Ruth (nee Smith) – Peacefully in her 84th year on Tuesday, August 9, 2017 after a long goodbye. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wilbur, and siblings Ian and Janet. She is survived and remembered with enduring love by her children Sarah (Rod), Peter (Cathy) and Rebecca; grandchildren Jakob, Isaac and William; and her entire “Couzbanian” clan. Marilyn was a force in life. Her fierce love for her family, friends, and community shone in every cause she championed and every wrong she tried to right. She will be remembered by many for her passionate defense of women’s rights, her steadfast belief in social justice, and her celebration of the impact and importance of volunteerism (not to mention her appreciation for a well-run meeting). While we miss her every single day, we find comfort and relief in the knowledge that her indomitable spirit is once again free to soar. On behalf of those who loved her, our sincerest thanks to the staff at Fairhaven Home, whose loving, compassionate care allowed Marilyn to live, and then leave, this life with dignity. A private family service will be held, followed by a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Marilyn’s honour to the YWCA of Peterborough, the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or the Fairhaven Foundation would be appreciated.
