I met MeryEllen when I started my master. She made lab meetings, lab environment and Christmas gatherings  pleasant and positive.  Dear MeryEllen rest in peace. You will be definitely missed.

There are no words to say how shocked and sad I am to hear of Mary-Ellen’s passing.  She was an amazing person and an amazing friend.   We met over 13 years ago when I came back from maternity and was looking after their room at McMaster, so many fun memories there.   You will be forever missed and will always be in my heart.  My condolences to Charles and the family.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I was so very saddened to hear the news of Mary Ellen's passing.  Unfortunately, I never had the privilege of meeting her, but it sounds like she was an amazing and incredible woman that will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Mary Ellen as I started graduate school. Beyond all the valuable things I learned from her in the lab, working with Mary Ellen didn't feel like work at all. She would always bring a lot of positive energy to the group, and I'll always remember our many trips to the library.

Very sad news - we are friends of Mary Ellen and Charles through Charles' work and spent time fishing together with them at our cabin near Sudbury.  We shared her love of the outdoors. Our deepest sympathies to the family. George and Sandra

I still remember when Mary Ellen let me stay with her while I finished up my masters. We would have amazing dinners together most nights (homemade by her of course) and would just chat about everything. She treated me like family and was one of the reasons I stayed so motivated during that time! She always made me and everyone else in her home feel so welcome and I could tell just by being around her friends and family that they loved her so much! She added a quirky touch to every event or gathering and was always making everyone laugh! She will be greatly missed.

Mary Ellen was like one of our family. We shared many fun and funny times, like picking ice wine grapes at 4:00am - Mary Ellen wore her circa 1970’s snow suit! And looked gorgeous. We will miss her laughter and love and sage advice, oh and her amazing ability to organize us all.

I was so saddened to hear of MaryEllen’s passing. We Carroll’s shared so many fun times with your family when we lived in Ontario. Sadly, with the passing of our parents, we haven’t had much contact in recent years. MaryEllen was closest to my age and I loved her like a sister. I dug up this photo from when I visited Maureen in high school and she took me to visit your family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers…I can’t imagine losing a sibling.

I have written and erased this message at least a dozen times today--there are no words to express the loss of this beautiful woman.  Mary Ellen was an amazing mentor and friend.  She was full of life and love--making work feel like home.  
The connection we made will always be cherished--she made me feel less alone during difficult times.  If one could choose their family, I would always choose her.

What a terrible shock and surprise to hear of Mary-Ellen's sudden passing. She was a warm, friendly, committed friend and collegue that we have certainly all missed as she move on in her career. Now the loss is all the greater that we will not be able to connect from time to time in our respective travels. My condolences to her family and close friends at this time of great personal loss. My thoughts are with you.

Charles, we are deeply saddened by Mary Ellen' s passing.  We so much enjoyed our  visits with you and her and our chats online.  Her  humour, generosity and strength are inspiring.   We are grateful for the time we knew her .  The two of you built a wonderful life together and she will be greatly missed. ME's time  came too soon. You can be comforted by the wonderful impact and memories that she left us all with.  

I remember Mary Ellen fondly. She was always there to offer sage advice, share a story or a laugh. She was kind, friendly, and very helpful. We share an affinity for collecting rocks and minerals. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Mary Ellen was a huge help to me as a graduate student working in a new area well outside my comfort zone. She was always so happy and cheerful...a true pleasure to be around. 

Such sad,sad news. Mary-Ellen was such a pleasure to work with and was missed when she left McMaster. She always made a point to come visit me when she returned to visit. 
Mary Ellen, you will always be remembered.
