SISTER PHYLLIS GUINDON Of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, Peterborough neighbourhood, entered into her eternal rest at Mount St. Joseph on June 14th, 2016. Born in 1926 in Maxville Ontario, Phyllis entered our religious Community in 1950. Sister is lovingly remembered by all her CSJ Sisters, her brother Philip (Mary) and her sisters Shirley (Roger) Villeneuve, Sylvia (Allen) Douglas, Jean (Luke) Caya, and Mary (Richard) Lacelle. Sister Phyllis is also remembered by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her father Felix Guindon and her mother Dora Currier. Also predeceased by her sisters Eileen (Wilmot) Lafave, Doreen (Jack) Hayman, Claire (Russell) Lefebvre, Martine (Duncan) MacDonald, Lorraine (Ernest) Basner and Beatrice (Gordon) Lalonde. St. Vincent’s Orphanage in Peterborough was Sr. Phyllis’ first assigned mission. She was next trained as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Peterborough and was then assigned nursing duties and supervisor at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Estevan SK and in Parry Sound ON. She was a supervisor at Marycrest, Peterborough and then had nursing duties at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Peterborough for eleven years. After training as a Pastoral Care worker she did parish and hospital visiting in Wainwright AB. She returned to nursing at Providence Villa/Hospital in Toronto for eleven years, and later at Island Park Lodge in Ottawa. From 1994 - 2004 she returned to Pastoral Care Ministry at Marycrest. From 2004 until 2008 she volunteered at St. Joseph’s at Fleming. In 2008 she began a ministry as sacristan for the chapel at Mount St. Joseph. Since 2012 Sister has resided with the Sisters in the Care Centre where she continued to use her gentle and caring nursing skills with the Sisters. Visitation will be at Mount St. Joseph, 1555 Monaghan Road, on Wednesday, June 15th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday June 16h at 9:30 a.m. at Mount St. Joseph Chapel. This will be followed by interment at Highland Park Cemetery, Peterborough. Arrangements by Comstock Funeral Home.
