It is with deep sadness that the family of Richard John Driscoll announce his passing on Monday, August 25, at PRHC’s Intensive Care Unit following a brief hospital stay. Beloved husband of Janet Robertson-Driscoll, and cherished stepfather of Andrea Nelson and her husband Scott Thompson, Richard will be forever remembered for the love he shared with his family. Born on October 19, 1945, to Raymond and Lillian (Guerin) Driscoll, Richard lived a life defined by hard work, devotion, and integrity. At just 16, he began his career with Canadian General Electric, where he dedicated 42 years until his retirement in 2003. Even in retirement, Richard’s hands were never idle—always busy with projects, big or small, fueled by his determination and quiet pride. A man of strong convictions, deep faith, and quiet wisdom, Richard was admired and respected by all who knew him. He especially loved life along the Otonabee River, where he built his dream home and shared it with Janet. Over their 34 years of marriage, together they created a true sanctuary filled with love and peace. Richard is survived by his siblings: Danny Driscoll (Fredi †), Julie (Harvie) Bell, Jill (Bill) Larocque, Jayne (Danny) Haywood, and Joanne (Gary) Reamey, as well as many nieces and nephews who will carry his memory with affection. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the paramedics, and to the compassionate staff of PRHC’s Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit, for their care and support. As Richard wished, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Reception will be held at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough, on Saturday, September 27 between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Peterborough would be greatly appreciated.
