Passed peacefully away in his 99th year with his family at his side on January 11, 2023 at Canterbury Gardens where he resided. Beloved husband of 68 years to Bernadette “Dette” West (née Lynch) who predeceased three years ago. Son of the late William and Louisa West. Predeceased by his siblings Edith “Tiny” (Bill deceased), Jim (Maida deceased), Reta, Thelma (Harry deceased), Myrtle (Stan deceased), Mildred (Guy deceased), Hazel (Bob deceased), Laura (Gord and Morley both deceased), Billy, Don (Madge surviving) and Archie (Louella deceased). Dear brother- in-law of Dick (Ann), Bud (Judie deceased), and Jim (Gillian deceased). Son in law of the late Cecil and Mona Lynch. Predeceased by his brothers-in-law Raymond, Harry (Bea deceased), Leon (Joan deceased) and Frank (Liz deceased). Will be fondly remembered by many generations of nieces and nephews in the Lynch and West families.
Bob was a Canadian WWII veteran, joining the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 17 in the Medical division. During the War Bob worked as a stretcher-bearer, guarded captured prisoner soldiers who received medical aid, and as a policeman. He returned home to Hastings and had a long career at Canadian General Electric as a crane operator. Bob and Dette loved to play board games, especially Aggravation and full contact bid euchre at the Legion, Activity Haven and many other locations around the Peterborough area. They also enjoyed cottage life at their cottage in Hastings. Though Bob and Dette were not blessed with children, they loved and supported the little ones in their family as if they were their own.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 51 Albert Street East, Hastings, Ontario with a service of committal to follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery.
