It is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of our dear wife and mother, Ruth “Bonnie” Garvey, on Friday, November 1st at Peterborough Regional Health Centre surrounded by her family. She was born in St. Catherine’s, Ontario on July 15, 1941 and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Leola Baker.
Bonnie was the devoted wife of Ken for 65 years. Together, they built a life, focused on family, which was filled with much joy and love. As a couple, they shared countless memories with family and friends and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life together – a good meal, a Sunday drive, or a project to work on around the house. They moved through the joys and challenges of life together.
Bonnie was a loving and devoted mother to her children: Theresa Wozney (Paul), Kate Colquhoun (Drew), Mary Stone (Joel), Sheila Lindsay, and Ken Jr. (Cathy). As the family grew, her warm heart extended to touch the lives of her 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her love and dedication to her family was her life force and she touched each and every family member in her own special way. There was always a big hug to be given.
She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law, Pam MacKay (Bob Bartlett) and her dearly loved nieces and nephews. Bonnie was the loving sister of Pat Baker (predeceased).
To know Bonnie was to love her. She was a warm, kind, and generous person. She will be fondly remembered by many valued friends and neighbours that she met over the years. She was well known for her love of a day out shopping; her unmatched enthusiasm for Christmas; as well as a good discussion on politics or current events. She was a great hostess and always had time for a cup of tea and a chat.
We would like to thank Dr. Colin Matheson for the compassionate care and the kind support he provided to Bonnie along her journey, and in whom she had the utmost faith in and respect for. We would also like to thank the Diabetic Clinic at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre for the support they provided to her. Bonnie lived as a Type One diabetic for over 53 years. Finally, we would like to thank the staff on the Palliative Care floor at PRHC for the compassion and kindness they showed to our entire family during this most difficult time.
Bonnie will be lovingly remembered and forever missed.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Ashburnham Funeral Home - 840 Armour Road, Peterborough. If desired, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Diabetes Canada or to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation.
