William Joseph DeMarsh

Passed away on December 1, 2018; just 15 days before his 104th birthday. Devoted husband of the late Ella Mae (nee Trudeau) for 66 years. Bill was the oldest of nine siblings born to Theodore and Loretta (nee Kinlin) DeMarsh of Tweed, Ontario. Bill is survived by his brother, Joseph and Joe’s wife, Elsie (nee Forbes) DeMarsh, and his sister, Loretta Yanch, as well as many generations of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Bill and Ella Mae were always there to celebrate the milestones and mourn the losses in the DeMarsh, Trudeau and Cassidy families. He will be especially missed by the families of Jim and Donna Cassidy, Maureen and Al Wilson, and Carl Cassidy, all of whom, growing up in close proximity to Mae and Bill, enjoyed a special bond and countless Sunday dinners together. All who had the pleasure of knowing Bill were impressed by his humility, sense of humour, incredible memory, quiet wisdom, and amazing inner strength. Led by an unwavering faith in God, Bill made the best of life’s challenges by maintaining a good and simple life, and by always choosing to do the right thing. Bill wisely chose Rubidge Retirement Residence to be his final home, and he lived there happily, for 15 years. We would like to thank most sincerely, Dr. Susan Tainsh, Ella Hewitt, and each member of the wonderful staff at Rubidge Hall for their kind and affectionate care for Bill. COMSTOCK-KAYE LIFE CELEBRATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough, Ontario, 705-745-4683. A Funeral Mass for Bill will be held at 11:30 at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, 300 Wilson Street, Peterborough, followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery. All are invited to join the family afterwards for a reception. Memorial donations to Five Counties Children’s Centre or Canadian Food For Children would be appreciated.
