With full hearts and deep sadness, we share that Bill passed away peacefully at Hospice Peterborough on October 15, 2025, in his 84th year.
Bill was the beloved husband and lifelong partner of Sandra, his wife of 65 wonderful years, who continues to be surrounded by the love and care of her family. Their marriage was a true partnership—built on love, humour, patience, and unwavering devotion.
He was the much-loved dad of Debra (Roger), Rob, Patty and Phil and a proud and playful grandpa to Katie (Lucas), Fiona, Colton (Ashley), Aimee, Kylie, and Richard. He’ll also be deeply missed by his brother Rick (Diana), with whom he shared a lifetime of stories, laughs, and brotherly teasing. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Gertrude, and his sister Christine.
Even as Sandra’s dementia progressed in recent years, Bill’s love never wavered. He never missed a visit—not once. Every single day, he made his way to Fairhaven with a sweet treat in hand and their little dog Buddy trotting beside him. His quiet devotion during those visits was a testament to the strength and depth of their bond. It was love in its purest form.
Bill was, above all, a family man. He was always there—with a listening ear, a good story, a helping hand, or a word of encouragement. He had a gift with his hands, building their first cottage himself and fixing just about anything. Even as his eyesight faded in later years, he continued woodworking and painting, often with a Bob Ross video playing nearby. He especially loved time at the family cottage in Buckhorn, where he found joy in nature, simple tasks, and being surrounded by those he loved.
Bill spent 30 years working at Northern Telecom, but his work didn’t end there. In retirement, he and Sandra opened their home—and their hearts—to young men in need, running a group home for young offenders through Peterborough Youth Services. They offered guidance, compassion, and a fresh start to so many, and made a lasting impact in the lives of others.
Bill will be remembered for his warmth, his twinkling eyes and mischievous humour, his big heart, and even bigger laugh. We’ll miss his “just checking in” phone calls, his Dairy Queen runs, and the comfort of one of his unforgettable hugs.
Cremation has taken place, and the family will gather later this year to celebrate Bill’s life the way he would have wanted: with food, laughter, stories, and love.
Special thanks to his PSW Lisa who provided support and friendship to Bill, to Keith for always being there with a lift, and to the many doctors and nurses who cared for Bill over the years. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the incredible staff at Hospice Peterborough, who cared for Bill with compassion, dignity, and warmth in his final days.
If you wish, donations in Bill’s memory can be made to Hospice Peterborough, in honour of the gentle, loving care he received there.
